An Interview with Rick Warren (REMEMBER HE WROTE 'PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE')

You will enjoy the new insights that Rick Warren has, with his wife now having cancer and him having 'wealth' from the book sales. This is an absolutely incredible short interview with Rick Warren,
'Purpose Driven Life ' author and pastor of  Saddleback   Church  in  California
In the interview by Paul Bradshaw with Rick Warren, Rick said:

People ask me, What is the purpose of life?
And I respond: In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were not made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven.

One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body-- but not the end of me.
I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going to spend trillions of years in eternity. This is the warm-up act - the dress rehearsal. God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity..

We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn't going to make sense.
Life is a series of problems: Either you are in one now, you're just coming out of one, or you're getting ready to go into another one..

The reason for this is that God is more interested in your character than your comfort; God is more interested in making your life holy than He is in making your life happy.

We can be reasonably happy here on earth, but that's not the goal of life. The goal is to grow in character, in Christ likeness.

This past year has been the greatest year of my life but also the toughest, with my wife, Kay, getting cancer.

I used to think that life was hills and valleys - you go through a dark time, then you go to the mountaintop, back and forth. I don't believe that anymore.

Rather than life being hills and valleys, I believe that it's kind of like two rails on a railroad track, and at all times you have something good and something bad in your life.
No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on.
And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is always something good you can thank God for.

You can focus on your purposes, or you can focus on your problems:
If you focus on your problems, you're going into self-centeredness, which is my problem, my issues, my pain.' But one of the easiest ways to get rid of pain is to get your focus off yourself and onto God and others.

We discovered quickly that in spite of the prayers of hundreds of thousands of people, God was not going to heal Kay or make it easy for her- It has been very difficult for her, and yet God has strengthened her character, given her a ministry of helping other people, given her a testimony, drawn her closer to Him and to people.

You have to learn to deal with both the good and the bad of life.

Actually, sometimes learning to deal with the good is harder. For instance, this past year, all of a sudden, when the book sold 15 million copies, it made me instantly very wealthy.

It also brought a lot of notoriety that I had never had to deal with before. I don't think God gives you money or notoriety for your own ego or for you to live a life of ease.

So I began to ask God what He wanted me to do with this money, notoriety and influence. He gave me two different passages that helped me decide what to do, II Corinthians 9 and Psalm 72.

First, in spite of all the money coming in, we would not change our lifestyle one bit.. We made no major purchases.

Second, about midway through last year, I stopped taking a salary from the church.

Third, we set up foundations to fund an initiative we call The Peace Plan to plant churches, equip leaders, assist the poor, care for the sick, and educate the next generation.

Fourth, I added up all that the church had paid me in the 24 years since I started the church, and I gave it all back. It was liberating to be able to serve God for free.

We need to ask ourselves: Am I going to live for possessions? Popularity?

Am I going to be driven by pressures? Guilt? Bitterness? Materialism? Or am I going to be driven by God's purposes (for my life)?

When I get up in the morning, I sit on the side of my bed and say, God, if I don't get anything else done today, I want to know You more and love You better. God didn't put me on earth just to fulfill a to-do list. He's more interested in what I am than what I do.

That's why we're called human beings, not human doings.
Happy moments, PRAISE GOD.
Difficult moments, SEEK GOD.
Quiet moments, WORSHIP GOD.
Painful moments, TRUST GOD.
Every moment, THANK GOD.

for everyone
I savor my birthday (on the 4th Dec). Each year brings me to a realization of why the Lord died for me and saved me. Because, I cannot save my self. He has to rule my life, because if left on my own I will simply ruin it. Praise the Lord He salvage what is left of it when I accepted Him as Savior and Lord. He has since then gave me the privilege to become His child. I call Him Father, and I feel His touch and hear His voice "yes my child" He hand to me life everlasting, unspeakable joy, and peace that passes all understanding. He redefined earthly existence, service and love.. . . And why does the Lord have to go through this trouble Forgive my bragging, its because He loves me - plain and simple.  My name is Rey and it is clear to me I am God's child, and that's enough for me.

Book Introduction

It is said that the Philippines as a whole suffer from a lack of vision. We are afraid that this does not apply to us as individuals, for we as a people have many aspirations, dreams, and wishes.  As a child the most common question that I used to hear is “what do you want to be when you grow up.  My two-year old granddaughter replied to this query by saying “I want to be a girl” Then sensing from the reaction of her mother and audience she corrected herself  “Noh, I want to be a lady.

No, we do not lack ambition nor we as a people lack the vision.  Dr. Jose Rizal, our National Hero wrote an essay, entitled “The Philippines, a Century Hence.” It is a vision of a progressive, “free” Filipinos and a respected member of the human race.  The driving force in the 100 years of local revolts against the Spanish rule was the vision of a free country.  The Filipinos are doing well abroad competing with the best entrepreneurs, executives, engineers, teachers, medical practitioners, etc. because they are propelled by dreams and visions for themselves and their families.  Why do we see endless lines to foreign embassies, in spite of numerous sad stories of tragedy that befall our OFWs.  Is it because they have dreams and     vision of a better life?  It seems therefore, that we should learn and learn hard and fast how to turn these burning motivation and drive to convert our dreams, wishes and visions to concrete realities.

Creative Problem Solving and Breakthrough Thinking tools force us to look at our challenges from a different perspective. By encouraging us to keep digging deeper into our challenge, they help us discover the power that is within each of us to overcome life's challenges. They help us uncover our hidden dreams and the steps we need to take to make our vision for our life a reality.

Some visions are personal, some are borne from the struggle to survive. Some visions save countries while others find new ways of improving our daily lives. But the most important aspect of a vision is the person, or people, who raise it up for others to see. While "envisioners" are characterized as the seekers and wonderers, the vision itself must be grounded on the knowledge that all goals are attainable, if only one can muster the focus in their lives to seek them out. -- Wyman

“Visioning means imagining. At first generally, and then, with increasing specificity, what you really want. That is what you really want. Not what someone else has taught you to want and not what you have learned to settle for. Visioning means taking off all of the constraints of assumed feasibility, of disbelief and past disappointments and letting your mind dwell upon its most noble, treasured, uplifting dreams. Some people, especially young people, engage in visioning with enthusiasm and ease. Some people find the exercise of visioning painful because a glowing picture of what could be makes what is all the more intolerable. Some people would never admit to their visions for fear of being thought impractical or unrealistic.  And some people have been so crushed by their experience of the world that they can only stand to explain why any vision is impossible.

Queen Elizabeth of England (1533-1603), reeling from a recent assassination wound, in pain from a jilted love affair, and with the powerful Spanish Armada bombarding the shores of England was despairing on her lot and on the verge of giving up.  His adviser very wisely said.  “You are the Queen and this I know, each man acts according to its own nature. Some dump from the terror, some flee, some hide, and some spread their wings like eagles and soar from the wind of ruins.”  The rest was history, Queen Elizabeth defeated the most powerful country of that time.

Vision does need to be balanced with skepticism. We should say immediately, for the sake of the skeptics, that we do not believe that it is possible for the world to envision its way to a sustainable future. Vision without action is useless, but action without vision does not know where to go or how to go there. Vision is absolutely necessary to guide and motivate action.

More than that, vision when widely shared and firmly kept in sight brings into being new systems. We mean that literally. Within the physical limits of space, time, material and energy, visionary human intentions can bring forth not only new information, new behavior, new knowledge and new technology, but eventually new social institutions, new physical structures and new powers within human beings.

A Case for learning Envisioning Skills

A sustainable world can never come into being if it cannot be envisioned. The vision must be built up from the contribution of many people before it is complete and compelling.” - Meadows, Donnella H., Dennis L. Meadows and Jørgen Randers Via: Parking Lot Blog

If vision is as important to the success of leaders and their organizations as many leadership experts suggest, effective methods for teaching visioning and determining antecedents of visioning skill are critical future issues.

Recent research suggests that visioning is a skill that can be learned, but the researchers disagree on the best learning model.  Management consultant and author, Burt Nanus describes a systematic approach that requires an assessment of barriers before the visioning takes place.  This method is ideal for some who need a directed study and can approach visioning with a preconceived notion of what type of vision is realistic.

Nearly all management scholars who conducted surveys and tests on vision skills and practices from 1994 to present day agree on its importance for effective leadership.  Although they argue over methodology and training paradigms, they agree that "envisioning" is more than simple time or task management.  While vision itself is a hypothetical cognitive thought process that, at minimum, clarifies strategic opportunities, envisioning skill can help individuals pull together beliefs, self images, and resources that can enhance personal as well as organizational long-term goal setting.

Envisioning skill also comprises more than reading or attending seminars.  All research and testimonial indicate that commitment to vigilant practice is the best pathway to making envisioning skill a powerful tool.

This book uses techniques of scenario planning and organizational learning to guide the reader through the complex structure of changing reality. It introduces a new approach to mapping a strategic change process.  It picked up learning experiences from the actual strategic planning processes in a country environment context dubbed as The National Strategic Planning Process 2020.  We also included here the actual experiences of visionary leaders and organizations in ministries and businesses in  their “death and resurrection” experiences.

The authors and contributors, who have established proven track record for over 40 years share the insight, experiences, and recent lessons that reinforced new researches on this most critical aspect of shaping and influencing the future. Their combined experiences in working and leading in the corporate world as well as in non-profit organizations, churches and ministries and their lucid and practical insights and doable action plans, makes thinking futures exciting, easy and rewarding.

Rey Halili

Visions that work are clear so they can easily be understood and acted upon by everybody that is asked to follow it.  Every aspect of the mission statement should be enforced by a compelling need through shared problems, goals, and aspirations. The essential points of the vision should be so tightly focused that they challenge your audience to challenge themselves.  Ask people to participate, not to just follow. Empower them by allowing them to share ownership in an optimistic future; one bearing positive attitudes and a meaningful opportunity for success.

Wyman/Russell

Vision Statement
A vision is a statement about what your organization wants to become. It gives shape and direction to the organization’s future. A vision should stretch the organization’s capabilities and image of itself. It should resonate with all members of the organization and help them feel proud, excited, and part of something much bigger than themselves.

Mission or Purpose
A precise description of what an organization does.    It should describe the business or ministry the organization is in. It is a definition of “why” the organization exists currently. Each member of an organization should be able to verbally express this mission.

Core Values
Value statements are grounded in values and define how people want to behave with each other in the organization. They are statements about how the organization will value its target group, constituencies, and suppliers. Value statements describe actions which are the living enactment of the fundamental values held by most individuals within the organization.

Vision is a dance of many steps.  FLOCK (For the love of Christ and Kindred) Ministry International was founded by Rev. Moises Cuaresma in Seattle, Washington.  Mostly, Filipino church people, it has a burden for the lost, the marginalized areas in Mindanao and the Philippines. The vision started more than 50 years from an Ilocano layman who migrated to General Santos, Cotobato. His passion to reach the Bilaan tribe in Cotobato region.  This man passed away but left the dream to his son.

FLOCK - US revisited Mindanao and sponsored a 900 attender of the Pastors Leadership Seminar in Camp Mariano. GS.

Renee was 7 years old when she extemporaneously composed this song and dance number similar to our Pinoy Zarzuela. It entertained us. camera is bad. But many musicians were amazed that she does'nt get lost in her pitch. "Lakas loob din" And I am proud of my Apo!

Points to think about:

• Our identity, security, and confidence are all deeply woven into our perception of God.

• We may have a false perception of God because of the human tendency to project onto Him the unloving characteristics of people we look up to.

• We wrongly believe that God is going to treat us as others do.

 • Our perception of God must come from the Scriptures and not from our truncated past and  tragic relationships.

"There have been many times in my life when I felt that God was going to punish me by causing me to lose all that I had, either because I'd done something I shouldn't have, or because I failed to do something I should have. This erroneous perception of God had driven me away from Him on many occasions when I've needed Him most, and is completely contrary to the One whom Paul describes as the 'Father of mercies and God of all comfort [2 Corinthians 1:3]" (Robert McGee in Search for Significance, Word Publishing, 1998).

Father God, my relationship with You is not about my efforts to obey or my performance; it is about who You are and who I can be through You. Amen.
